This is a stunning art deco earthenware Wall Plate by Gertrud Lnegren for Upsala Ekeby This exquisite earthenware dish was designed by Gertrud Lnegren for Upsala Ekeby in the 1930s.
The plate features figurative relief decor and a copper oxide glaze in beautiful green and black tones. It is marked with a deep stamp reading "EKEBY" along with the number 38, as well as an Upsala Ekeby silver sticker. The wall plate, previously known as S:t Erik number 638 was designed in 1933.
Following the acquisition of S:t Eriks by Upsala Ekeby in 1938, thr plate has the Upsala Ekeby model number of 38. It has a diameter of 30 cm and includes a hanging hole for wall display. Gertrud Lnegren (1905-1970) was a prominent designer during her time at S:t Eriks Lervarufabriker, where she contributed significantly to the company's collection from 1932 to 1936.
Following the acquisition of S:t Eriks by Upsala Ekeby in 1938, parts of her collection remained in production. Lnegren was trained in Vienna and was initially influenced by Austrian taste. After her tenure at S:t Eriks, she went on to work at Rrstrand from 1936 to 1941.
