The 8th Special Operations Squadron (SOS) is a United States Air Force unit within the 20th Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Field, Florida. Primarily operating MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft, this squadron supports special operations forces by delivering personnel and equipment to remote locations, as well as conducting airborne resupply missions. The unit's origins trace back to 1942 during World War II, where it initially operated C-47 Skytrains and later transitioned to the more versatile C-130 Hercules series. Throughout its history, the 8th SOS has been involved in numerous significant operations, including Project MKUltra, Operation Jump-in, the Vietnam War, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The squadron's motto is "The Greatest Show on Earth."
