Producer Information
Domaine Gerin is a French wine producer based in the Cte Rtie at the northernmost tip of the Rhne Valley. The estate's wine portfolio is dominated by its range of varietal Syrah wines from vineyards in Cte Rtie and Saint-Joseph, with additional vineyard sites in Condrieu providing the estate's Viognier wines. Jean-Michel Gerin acquired his first vineyard plot in Cte Rtie in 1983. Four years later, he released his inaugural vintage, closely followed by his first single-vineyard wine, Les Grandes Places, in 1988 and La Landonne in 1996. The estate's most recent release came in 2009 with the production of La Viallire from a vineyard planted in 2004 in Cte Rtie. These single-vineyard varietal Syrah wines come from southeast-facing vineyards planted on a variety of soil types, from mica to iron oxide and schist. In terms of vinification, the grapes are 100 percent destemmed and macerated for four weeks. Gerin uses 100 percent new oak barrels to age these wines for 18-20 months.
